OUR MISSION

Groningen is a bursting hub of theatre lovers. Several amateur theatre organisations frequently create quality plays for growing audiences. What would happen if something were to bring these groups together? What could they create?
Our mission is to, in the heat of the moment and under pressure of the clock, form new connections and friendships between Groninger theatre lovers.
This chaos will lead to creativity. And we call it: The 24 Hour Plays Groningen.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

A 24 hour play is not a 24 hour long play. That would take way too much coffee to sit through. Instead, a 24 hour play is a play created in the time span of 24 hours. In a hectic, all-bets-are-off environment, you will team up with a director, script writer, head of production, and multiple actors, to create a completely original play. As a play is no play without an audience, it is then performed in front of a roaring audience. A hand-picked jury will conclude the evening by awarding the best play of the night.

Actor

A play with no-one on stage is… boring. You are here to fix this problem. Under guidance of a director and with the cobbled-up scribbles of the writer, you will perform the play of a lifetime. Together with your fellow actors, ofcourse.

Writer

A good story needs a good writer. You will write a play from scratch, and will see it performed in front of a large audience only hours after. Not even Shakespeare had that kind of privilege.

Director

Creating a play in 24 hours is like a perfect storm. You are the eye of the storm. You oversee the production and make everthing come together. Make the script and the actors shine on that podium, because that is your job.

Head of production

You are the head of production. This means you are responsible for the visual vibe and creative vision of the play. You are in charge of set design, dress the actors to their role and determine visage.

To make The 24 Hour Plays Groningen run smoothly, we are looking to you for help.

During the day, we will need the help of a chosen few to feed the hungry, welcome the new, and help realise (or kill, if need be) the creative dreams of the participants. Being a volunteer comes with several benefits. These include:
